Money Raised for St. John of God Health Centre in Accra, Ghana

During Advent, and for the second year running Max Kuchler, the Chef de Cuisine at the Brothers of Saint John of God Vienna Hospital organised a Christmas charity market. Stands were set up in the courtyard, together with a small bar in front of the hospital entrance, where visitors were given a taste of punch. The sale of confectionery raised 7,005 euro. A further 2,735 euro came from the sale of home-made jams and cakes, and 1,360 euro were given to us in donations by friends andsupporters. Altogether, we raised 11,100 euro to be used for the Order'?s missionary project launched last year ? the Community Health Centre at Accra in Ghana.

In mid-January, and in the presence of the local Superior, Brother Paulus Kohler, the chef, Max Kuchler, delivered the money to the members of theGeneral Council who were present in Vienna for the General Definitory meeting. The Prior General, Brother Jesús Etayo Arrondo, thanked him for his great and altruistic commitment and made it clear that such a large sum would make a vital contribution to the completion of the Centre. The General Councillor, Brother Pascal Ahodegnon, who himself hails from Africa, promised to personally tell the Brothers in Ghana about Kuchler?s commitment on their behalf.

Chef Max Kuchler also took the opportunity to brief the General Council on his future projects: it was his intention to increase his contribution, and to commit himself not only to this year?s' missionary project but also to open a charity shop in Vienna'?sTaborstraße.
