International Congress the Brothers of St John of God Hospital, Vienna

The Brothers of St John of God Hospital in Vienna (http://www.barmherzige-brueder.at/site/wien/home) organized an International Congress on 12-13 May this year on, ?The hospital of tomorrow ? future challenges to medicine, care and management?. This Congress formed part of a series of events being organized to celebrate the fourth centenary of the foundation of the Brothers of St John of the God Hospital in Vienna. The first day of the Congress was dedicated to the question of care. A number of important issues regarding the future of care were debated, including: care ethics, the evolution of care in Europe, and new areas of care. Other papers addressed tailored care and specific case studies.

Future challenges facing hospital management  took up most of the work of the second day. The following matters were addressed: computerisation and digitalisation, innovations for admissions and departmental management, patient security and safety, quality management, risk management, and new instruments for interface management.

A series of technical/medical papers were delivered in the afternoon sessions by Consultants in different specialisms, mostly from the Vienna hospital, illustrating their work.

The General Curia was represented by the General  Councillor, Bro. Rudolf Knopp and the Director of the Brussels European Office, Dr. Carlo Galasso. Both played an active part in the work and gave presentations.
