Inauguration of the " New Dawn" Geriatric Pavilion Quito (Ecuador)

On June 27, the ?New Dawn Geriatric Pavilion was inaugurated at the Saint John of God Retirement Home in Quito, Ecuador.

This initiative came out of the desire and commitment of the Retirement Home to provide improved facilities to care for the guests in the Centre, in response to the new needs that this community is facing in Quito city.

To achieve it, they had to work very hard and with determination to raise funds at home and abroad, and to secure the cooperation and participation of the Order’s entities working in this sector belonging to the Northern South American Provincial Curia and the General Curia.

With this new 5,342 m²facility, 55 elderly guests will be catered for while the Rest Home is expanding its capacity to look after people in the third age, both residential and in the Day care Unit, offering them the opportunity to use modern spacious areas with facilities to complement their medical care such as Physiotherapy and Recreation, Occupational Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, Spiritual Care, Nutrition, Psycho-Rehabilitation and Memory Retention, the Observation Room and Medical Outpatient rooms.

The inaugural event opened with the Eucharist after which the management of the Centre, the Provincial Superior, and the Director of the Missions and International Cooperation Office of the General Curia greeted everyone present, before cutting the traditional ribbon to unveil a commemorative plaque and blessing all the facilities.

What made this event special was the participation of two groups of residents who offered the invited guests several choreographies of the games they play.
