38 Brothers from 5 Continents Prepare for Final Profession

A ceremony inaugurating the Course of preparation for solemn professions in the Order was held on Monday 8 September 2014.  Attending the course are 38 young scholastic brothers from five continents. The Course, from 8 September to 20 October, will mainly be held in Rome but will also take the Brothers to Assisi and then to Trivolzio ? birthplace of Saint Riccardo Pampuri ? to Ciempozuelos ? to pray to Saint Benedict Menni  on the first centenary of his death and to Barcelona, last resting place of a group of our martyrs who were beatified in Tarragona last year.  The Course will end in Granada, following the footsteps of St. John of  God

The aim of the Course is to learn to discern and study the significance of the Brothers’? consecration to God, following in the steps of Jesus Christ and the example f St John of God.

In a homily at the mass inaugurating the Course, Superior General Brother Jesús Etayo spoke of the sense of consecration, citing the example of the vocation and mission of Mary, Mother of God, whose birth is celebrated on 8 December 8th, as a model of the consecrated life.  He then paid tribute to the memory of our three Brothers, Miguel, Patrick and George, and to Sister Chantal, who died recently after contracting the Ebola virus in the performance of their mission of hospitality in Liberia and Sierra Leone.  Hospitality, the Superior General stated in his homily,? is fascinating but demanding at the same time; it implies the cross and death, as testified by our four brothers and sisters  and by so many others who have died in the course of history after catching mortal diseases, including Saint John Grande.

Brother Jesús also stressed the responsibility implicit in lives of faith and prayer, in lives devoted to brotherhood, communal living and mission: ?You are the future of the Order and must bear witness to your consecration to hospitality by accepting and living out all its many aspects with hope and audacity.?
