150 Years of Service on Three Continents!

On Saturday last, 2nd April, St. John of God Brothers Malachy Brannigan, Hugh Gillan and Michael Newman celebrated their Golden Jubilee of Religious Profession, between them 150 years working in the service of the marginalised.  Br. Malachy is at present working in Olallo house in London which provides accommodation for the homeless.  he previously worked in the Order's services in Ireland and the US.  Br. Hugh is a member of the Chaplaincy Team in St. John of God Hospital, Dublin.  He spent many years in Korea and was part of the team of Brothers who initiated mental health services in both Seoul and Gwangju and personally introduced the AA programme to Korea.  Br. Michael Newman works with the Order's mental health Services in Malawi and has also worked in England, Ireland and the Phillippines.

The Brothers with their families, friends and colleagues from many of the St. John of God services, gathered in the St. John of God Hospital Chapel to celebrate the Eucharist and renew their vows.  Afterwards they enjoyed a celebratory meal and evening of music and dance.  After a short break in Ireland they will return to their respective ministries and carry on the tradition of hospitality to which they vowed their lives 50 years ago.
