Ebola Deaths on the Rise in Africa

The St John of God community has appealed for funds to fight the ebola outbreak in which up to 1,000 people have died including some of St John of God brothers and staff who work in their hospitals.

The St. John of God Hospital in Lunsar (Sierra Leone) and the St. John of God Hospital in Monrovia (Liberia) have been involved in treating patients who are suffering from the ebola virus. Tragically already one of the doctors, two nurses and last Saturday, Br. Patrick Nshamdze, have died from contacting the deadly virus.

Br. James Pidgeon, who died on Friday 17th July, will be deeply missed by his Brothers in the Order, his family, friends and former work colleagues throughout the St. John of God Services. Br. James had been ill for several years and died peacefully, in his sleep.
