Brigid's 'Camino' Launched

A new pilgrim walk or Irish ‘camino’ has been launched in Kildare as part of Feile Bride. The Brigid’s Way Celtic Pilgrimage or Slí Bhride takes nine days to complete and runs 70 miles or so between St Brigid’s Shrine in Faughart, Co Louth to St Brigid’s monastic city in Kildare town.
Early New Year Meeting of the General Council

It has now become a tradition for the General Council to meet at the beginning of every year in a special session to programme its activities. This year the session was held in two places at two different times. The first part was in Rome at La Nocetta on 8-10 January, and the second meeting convened in Granada near the mortal remains of St John of God, on 21-23 January.

Sister Rima, 40, from Aleppo, a member of the Teaching Sisters of Dorothy-Daughters of the Sacred Hearts, was killed on 15 January in a bomb blast that killed 87 people at the Aleppo university. she was involved in the local youth mission, running a female boarding school near the University.

The Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (MSC) plan to send lay missionaries to South Africa this June in a new initiative. MSC Vocations Director, Fr Alan Neville, has put out a call for men and women, aged of 25 and 40, who will volunteer three months of their time over the summer. Ideally applicants should have skills in teaching, mechanics, carpentry, nursing, electricity, or medicine, but preparatory training will also be provided.
