The first meeting of the Directors of the Hospitaller Order’s social services for the homeless in Europe took place at the General Curia this week. The meeting, promoted and organized by Carlo Galasso, in charge of the Order’s European Office in Brussels, in cooperation with the Spanish Interprovincial Commission “Juan Ciudad” , and Joan Uribe, director of the Social Services of the Order in Barcelona, was opened by the Prior General Br. Donatus Forkan and Br. Rudolf Knopp, First General Councillor.

Stefanie Reid, suffered a terrible accident when she was 16. During her talk at the Flame Youth Conference in March this year she spoke about her life and described how her faith helped her follow her dream of becoming a world class runner. I am so thankful every day that I get to live out one of my dreams - to be a professional athlete. I have wanted to do this since I was five and competed in my first school sports day. I played everything from basketball, to cross country, to swimming to ballet, and then at 12, I fell in love with rugby. It was my goal to play internationally.

Twelve Begin Formation for Priesthood at Maynooth

The twelve first-year seminarians include three from the diocese of Dublin, two from Down & Connor, two from Kerry and one each from Clogher, Cloyne, Ferns, Meath and Raphoe. Last year, 13 men began studies in Maynooth, while in 2010 the figure was 10 while in 2009, it was 24.

Korean Province Embarks on New Project at Evergreen Village

On the 9th August last the Korean Province held the ground breaking ceremony for the new Respite Centre for persons with learning disability at Gaewha-dong, Kangseo-gu, Seoul. This project is part of a larger proposed project “the Evergreen Village”. On completion of the Respite Centre, it is hoped to embark on the second stage, the building of a Centre for older persons with learning disability.

On the ‘Morning Ireland’ radio programme this morning Fr. Iggy McCormack, Vocation Director for the Diocese of Killaloe, Co. Clare, confirmed that a donation of 1million euro had been made to the diocese specifically for the promotion of vocations. He said that this was an extraordinary act of generosity on the part of a parishoner from the diocese.
