Adult Faith in City Centre Dublin

Facing the challenge of educating the mature ones in faith, Gardiner St church has begun a series of public lectures by recent authors. These lectures, of about an hour, are proving popular, and depending on the topic and the topicality may draw anything up to a few hundred people.

Richard Leonard spoke on Where the Hell is God?, Michael Paul Gallagher spoke on Faith Maps, Margaret Silf on Inner Compass and The Gift of Prayer, Brian Grogan on Where To from Here?, Dermot Lane on Stepping Stones to Other Religions, Tom Casey and Peggy Hasset on From Fear to Serenity with Anthony de Mello, and Paul Coutinho on How Big is Your God?.

The challenge to offer some further insight and development in faith is relevant and timely, as many people have had little faith education since school, or since studies for ministry some time ago. These talks are like the old ‘Gardiner St Lenten Lectures’ given each Lent by professors from Milltown Park who in the old days made the journey across the Liffey, often by bicycle, to share theology with the north side!

Gardiner Street's next talk will be on Tuesday May 8th, when Donal Harrington will speak on his Columba Press publication, Christianity at its Best. The link with a recent publication gives more topicality to the themes, and both the sale if the books themselves and the immediate availability of the talk on CD is proving popular. CDs of the talks by speakers Coutinho (who also spoke in St Ignatius, Galway) , Lane and Grogan are on sale for €3 at the parish office.
