Order’s Second International Seminar on Projects and Fundraising

\\\"Sharing international experiences to underpin the implementation of projects that meet the needs of the Centres of the Hospitaller Order, linking them to the many different forms of national and international cooperation\\\"\"\\"\\"\"

On 5 and 6 September, 2012, the Second International Seminar-Workshop on Projects and Fundraising was held in Chiclayo (Peru).  Attending the meeting were the General Councillor for Latin America, the Director of the Missions and International Cooperation Office of the General Curia, the Provincial Superior of the Northern South American Province, forty-nine people from the many Centres of the Hospitaller Order in Peru, Ecuador and Venezuela, a representative of the St John of God Foundation-Mexico AC (General Delegation of Mexico-Cuba-Honduras), the Director of Social Planning of the Colombian Province, the Director of the St John of God Foundation, Bolivia (Southern South American Province), and representatives of the Teletón-St John of God Foundation, the Project Coordinator of Juan Ciudad ONGD, and the Project Manager of the Northern South American Province.

The seminar was also addressed by the Director of the Jesuit Development-Procuration Office in Peru.

The purpose of the Meeting, following on the work performed last year in Cuzco, was to continue using synergies to ensure that, against a background of changes and great challenges, the America Region will coninue to make progress through sharing experiences and learning from best practices in relation to the daily work, to ensure the viability, sustainability and mission of the Centres, and to consolidate  the work of International Cooperation Project Management and Fundraising.

The Seminar reached the following conclusions:

  • Recognising that Fundraising and the humanisation process upon which it depends forms a fundamental part of the Charism of St John of God, it requires us to be very creative, relying on whatever support can be provided by the Provincial Teams and the other members of the Hospitaller Family.
    • Project Management and Fundraising requires us to begin and to pursue the development of the professional skills that contribute to the Charismatic and economic sustainability of our Centres.
    • Considering current trends in the field of International Cooperation, we are faced with the need and the challenge to seek new alternatives.
    • This makes it necessary for us to foster opportunities to exchange experiences and to develop and enhance skills and capabilities.
    • Every Province should create and upgrade an Office or a Foundation dedicated to these specific tasks, seeking to network within their Region, while remaining open to other Regions of the Order.

Future meetings should be tasked with encouraging the participation of representatives of every Province in the Region and of the existing Networks, in order to be able to continue \\\"thinking and performing\\\" a well-articulated and convincing process for Latin America, in the manner of St John of God,  with the possibility of addressing such issues as, inter alia: Project methodology and processes, fundraising techniques, voluntary service as a bridge for spreading the values of the Order, and donations.
