CORI: Conversations for the Year of Faith

This little package contains discussion-material for five weekly meetings to be held in Lent, relating to the Year of Faith. The material was prepared by Fainche Ryan, and the staff at CORI (Conference of Religious of Ireland). Its aim is to promote a positive faith-sharing on some of the core principles of Christianity during 2013. The sequence of topics we suggest is this:

1 The Journey of Christian Discipleship
2 The Prayer of Christians: “We believe in God”
3 Jesus Christ: “Who Do You Say that I am?”
4 We believe in the Holy Spirit. . .
5 Models of Christian Discipleship

We suggest that each community of religious should arrange  weekly meeting, starting within the first week of Lent (ie February 17-23), for prayerful discussion of the proposed topic. Ideally, you would invite interested lay women and men to join with the religious for these discussions, if that is feasible for your community. Naturally, the same topics could be usefully discussed at some later time in the year, if Lent does not suit the particular group. A sufficient number of copies of the guidelines for each evening should be distributed, so that everybody can follow the ideas presented, before the discussion becomes general. Questions for further discussion are associated with each of the topics.

The procedure we suggest for each meeting is as follows: Welcome: The presider welcomes everyone, and says what this session is about. Prayer: Each session begins and ends with a prayer.  Leaflets: Distribute one for that session to everyone present (if not done in advance).  Reading: Sections of the leaflet are read aloud (each paragraph by a different person) Initial Response:

What do you make of these ideas?  What struck you as you read them?
Difficulties: Any perplexity or struggle we find with this aspect of our faith?
Potential: How might this truth of faith have a richer spiritual influence on us today?
Questions: Some or all of the “Questions for Discussion”, depending on time.
Conclusion: End with a prayer.

Announce date of next meeting, and share a cup of tea.  We suggest that each community of religious should arrange a weekly meeting, starting within the first week of Lent (ie February 17-23), for prayerful discussion of the proposed topic. Ideally, you would invite interested lay women and
