Early New Year Meeting of the General Council

It has now become a tradition for the General Council to meet at the beginning of every year in a special session to programme its activities. This year the session was held in two places at two different times. The first part was in Rome at La Nocetta on 8-10 January, and the second meeting convened in Granada near the mortal remains of St John of God, on 21-23 January.

The following matters were addressed in the first part of the meeting:

-          Drafting the General Government programme for the new Sexennium

-          Instituting the General Curia Commissions

-          Identifying and collecting the contents of the 2012 General Chapter documentation

-          Reorganising the General Curia, for which:

o   a working group was set up tasked with drafting a reorganisation plan

o   a general outline plan was adopted to govern the Commissions, areas of responsibility and the offices of the General Curia

-          Adopting the Missions and International Cooperation Office operating procedures

-          Defining the main thrusts of the future strategy for Tiber Island Hospital.

The 2nd part was devoted to:

-          Laying the spiritual foundations for the new Sexennium close to St John of God?s last resting place

-          Deciding on the contents of the Canonical Visitations

-          Deciding on the main agenda items for the 2014 Provincial Chapters

-          Conducting an on-site inspection of progress with the restoration of the old hospital of St John of God in Granada

-          Meeting the two Communities in Granada.
