Order Takes Part in EU Measures to Combat Poverty in Europe

On January 23, we took part in a public hearing at the European Parliament on the programme to support the poor and deprived in the European Union.\"\"

The MEPs sitting on the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs met and engaged with the representatives of not-for-profit European entities and organisations working with marginalised and poor people. The main focus of the work and the debate was the legislative proposal, currently being approved, on the institution of a “Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived” for the period 2014-2020. The Union intends to use this form of EU support not only to finance the distribution of food and staple goods, but also for projects and schemes to help the homeless, and children at the risk of poverty and marginalisation. It is also planned to ensure that the adoption of programmes and criteria for the provision of subsidies will be agreed with the governments of each Member State according to national needs and priorities.
