'World Youth Day: Inspiring Generations'

In August 2011, more than 4,000 young pilgrims left Britain in the midst of the London looting and and arrived in Madrid for the World Youth Day celebrations. During this time, many of them had transformational life experiences - including Jo-Anne Rowney, Paula Mendez and James Kelleher. They got together and collected testimonies from the people they met along the way, to produce this beautiful book: 'World Youth Day: Inspiring Generations' which has just been published as an e-book on Amazon.

"Being at World Youth Day was an impressive and awesome experience, but the impact of World Youth Day in my life is something that has lived with me since I came back from Madrid" - said Paula, one of the co-editors. "During World Youth Day we spent a lot of time talking to each other about our life experiences and the Church, some of these experiences were very moving - that is when we realised (with my co-editors) that we could get something together which could be put at the service of the Church."

Paula writes: "The purpose of the book has different levels. Firstly and most importantly the book serves to tell everyone the amazing experience of World Youth Day and hopes to persuade the reader to attend Rio2013 or another World Youth Day and experience it for themselves.

"Secondly, the book helps to explode the myth that young people are not interested in Catholicism or religion. The testimonies in this book provide clear evidence that there are young people, especially in the UK, who are hungry for God and to live their faith within the Catholic Church.

"Finally we hope this book will reveal that World Youth Day - more than a youth festival - is a formative experience relevant to every young person. The Pope’s speeches, moments of prayer, opportunities for confession, eucharistic adoration and attending the three days of spectacular catechesis is a wonderful witness that the World Youth Day experience needs to be lived at home beyond the periodic two - three year cycle of the church. These simple yet deeply moving testimonies are witness to this."

World Youth Day: Inspiring Generations, includes a Foreword by Archbishop Vincent Nichols, a collection of 21 testimonies of British pilgrims - including Julie Etchingham from ITV news, Paschal Uche who welcomed Pope Benedict XVI outside Westminster Cathedral and Marcin Mazur, the papal photographer in 2010.

There are also the Pope’s speeches during the main World Youth Day events and a ‘Connect’ section to help Catholics become more active in their faith.

World Youth Day: Inspiring Generations makes a great read in the run-up to World Youth in Rio. It is available worldwide through Amazon as an ebook: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00C0GBAMY/ref=tsm_1_fb_lk
