Ongoing Formation

On Saturday, May 18, 2013 the three Rome communities ? La Nocetta, the Vatican Pharmacy and Tiber Island ? spent a day undergoing continuing formation around the lines of action and priorities set out in the declarations of the General Chapter held in Fatima on 22 October-9 November, 2012.

In his introduction, the Father General, Brother Jesús Etayo, addressed the six core points set out in the lines of action, namely:

ü  The Hospitaller Family: for which the vision of the Order as a family remained valid as defined in no. 22 of the General Statutes. It was nevertheless essential to continue working to ensure that what was defined there was translated into reality.

ü  The mission: he said that the mission had to be performed consistently with the continuing updating of the Charism of hospitality.

ü  Renewal: this, he said, was a personal and communitarian challenge which must be seized upon, for our very survival as consecrated men and as missionaries depended on it.

ü  The spiritual life of the Brothers: they constituted the core of the Hospitaller Family. The spiritual life must be fostered, animated and nurtured through the life of faith and prayer, fraternal life in community, continuing formation, and the pastoral care and promotion of vocations.

ü  Our Co-workers: they were co-responsible with us for our mission, and without them it would be impossible to successfully perform our mission. We must continue working together in a spirit of mutual respect, trust and esteem.

ü  The structures of the Order: at all times meet they had to be adequate to meet the needs of the mission ,by gearing them to reality.

After this introduction, Brother Giampietro helped us to review all the priority lines of action set out in the Chapter declarations, after which we held a thorough and fraternal debate on their substance.

It is now the responsibility of each community to bring out the priority lines of action of the Chapter declarations in their community life project and in their apostolic work.
