Plan of Action for St. John of God Latin American Region

The Latin American Regional Commission, made up of the Provincial Superiors and the General Delegate of Mexico, Cuba and Honduras, and the Provincial Delegate of Brazil, met in Buenos Aires on 13 and 14 June. The meeting was also attended by Brother Jesús Etayo, the Superior General, General Councillor, Brother Benigno Ramos, Brother Jairo E. Urueta, the General Delegate for the Region and Dr. Xavier Pomés, the General Delegate for the centres in the Region.

The meeting had been convened to set out the main thrusts of the Plan of Action of the Latin American Region for the present Sexennium, and the animation structure.

The main purpose of the Commission is to foster and animate the life of the Order in Latin America consistently with the Declarations of the 68th General Chapter of the Order, and the real-life situation in each of the Order?s Provinces and Delegations.

The Regional Commission is run by its governing body, made up of the Provincial Superiors and Delegates, who will animate, adopt and supervise the plans of action of all the working groups or subcommissions: Vocations Promotion/Pastoral Care and Initial Formation; Centres and Management; Pastoral Care of the Sick and the Social Pastoral Ministry; Bioethics, School of Hospitality and any others which will be established as required. The governing body will address the matter of the Brothers? Lifestyle and Continuing Formation, and the Order?s Future Structures.
