Invocation North 2013

What is Invocatioin in the North?

Invocation in the north a youth vocations discernment festival for young adults, aged between 16 and 35.   invocation brings together young people who are looking to deepen their relationship with christ and who wish to discern god’s will for their lives. it provides them with knowledge and tools to take a next step forward in faith.   the national festival has taken place at oscott college near birmingham for the last three summers. this year the weekend event is being organised on a regional basis. the festival at ampleforth abbey is aimed principally at young people from the north of england but others the north of england but others from elsewhere are also warmly invited to attend.  The event provides fellowship and catechesis and opportunities for confession, adoration, quiet reflection and discernment. the three keynote speakers - fr sebastian maria kajko cfr, bishop michael campell osa and sister roseanne reddy sgl - will consider respectively three dimensions of discernment: “called”, “formed” and “sent.” there will also be seven interactive workshops on the following themes: vocation in the catechism; benedictine spirituality, carmelite spirituality; chastity; the diocesan priesthood; new evangelisation and the ignatian model of discernment.

 What does it Cost?

prices include admission to the festival, all activities, main meals and accommodation for those staying on site (see below for details of accommodation provided by invocation). fees are payable at the time of booking and are non-refundable. cheques should be made payable to “the diocese of salford”. evening bar and daytime snacks are available, but are not included in the price.

 Price for discerners:

the cost for each attendee is £60.   The price is heavily subsidised for you by donations from dioceses and religious orders. however, if you still cannot afford to give £60, please ask your parish priest in the first instance whether the parish can help; failing that, please contact the diocesan vocations director. the cost should not prohibit your from attending the festival. go to to find contact details of your diocesan vocations director.

 Price for priests and religious:

the cost for religious is £150, which helps subsidise the ticket price for discerners.  Religious orders are asked to send just one representative; those who are bringing young people may bring more. there will not be any stalls available for promotional material as the accent is on discernment rather than recruitment.
