Vocations Ireland Participates in Pilgrimage for those on Vocational Journey

Vocations Ireland attended the Pilgrimage for seminarians, novices and those on a vocational journey in Rome July 4 - 7 to mark the Year of Faith.

On Saturday the 6,000 of us who had gathered met with Pope Francis who gave an off-the-cuff talk, reminding us that "To become a priest or a religious is not primarily our choice; it is our answer to a calling, a calling of love". Pope Francis said "I would like a more missionary church, not so much a tranquil church, but a beautiful church that goes forward."

6,000 young people from 66 different countries participated in a Marian procession in the Vatican Gardens as part of the pilgrimage.

The theme of the pilgrimage was entitled "I trust in you", to indicate the act by which many young people still find the strength and courage to consecrate themselves to the Lord and to the priestly or consecrated life as a sign of generosity to the Lord Who calls upon them to follow Him.

The pilgrimage for seminarians, novices and those on a vocational journey in Rome July 4 - 7 concluded with Mass presided by Pope Francis in St. Peter's Basilica. Pope Francis told us that vocations come from prayer because it is God who chooses his disciples, not "advertising campaigns or appeals of service and generosity."
