St. John of God College of Health Sciences Opens in Malawi
The
extension project which commenced in 2008 was opened on Friday 1st
October by Brother Donatus Forkan, O.H. Prior General of the Hospitaller
Order of St. John of God and blessed by the Rt. Reverend Joseph Mukasa Zuza,
Bishop of Mzuzu Diocese.
Facilities include classrooms,laboratories, library, offics, counselling suite, a multipurpose hall, accommodation for 40 students and 6 staff houses.
The college registered 56 students for 2010:
12 BSc Mental Health – Psychiatric Nursing
16 University Diploma in Counselling
28 BSc in Clinical Medicine (Mental Health
The health care services in Malawi are an initiative of the Province begun in 1993 and since then headed up by Br. Aidan Clohessy, OH. Under the leadership of Br. Aidan the service has grown from small beginnings to providing a significant mental health care service and outreach programme in Malawi.
